Steamed Fish Fillets Recipe


  • 8 fish fillet
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 onions cut into small pieces
  • 3 tomatoes cut into small pieces
  • 2 pods of garlic chopped finely
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp chopped spring onions
  • ½tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 2tbs oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Aluminum foil cut into rectangular pieces for each fillet to be wrapped.


  1. Sprinkle salt and turmeric on the fish fillet and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1tbsp of oil in a non-stick pan and pan-fry the fish fillet 4 at a time.
  3. Spread the fish fillet on the non-stick pan and fry both sides till just light golden brown.
  4. Once all the fish fillets are fried, add the remaining oil and add the mustard seeds and allow spluttering.
  5. Add the onions and fry well.
  6. Add the tomatoes, garlic pieces, and spring onions and continue to fry on medium heat.
  7. Add the spices and continue to fry.
  8. Add salt and add 1tbsp of water.
  9. Cook till the gravy mixes well.
  10. Place a piece of the pan-fried fish on a piece of aluminum foil.
  11. Add a portion of the prepared gravy so that the fish fillet is coated well, and fold the foil from all four sided to form a parcel. Secure the parcel tying with a thread.
  12. Place the oil for frying the fish parcels in a non-stick pan and place three to four parcels on the pan and roast the fish on low fire turning once or twice so that the fish fillet is cooked on both sides.
  13. Serve hot.
